Linnes Gård – Lettuce and edible flowers

Linnes Gård – Everything is in the details

At his last visit to Norway, our owner and CEO Marc Salvany had the pleasure of visiting a very interesting grower in Lier: Linnes Gård, together with our Nordic sales team members Vidar Nordby and Anette De Lange. At Linnes Gård they grow lettuce and edible flowers. The operation is run by Terje and Ragnhild Nærstad together with their daughter Anne Eline, the fifth generation in this family-run business.

From HPS to Hybrid to Full LED

Linnes Gård began in 2018 with HPS lighting that supported early growth and year round cultivation. As energy efficiency and climate control became increasingly important, they took the next step in 2024 by introducing a hybrid lighting setup, combining HPS with our LED luminaire WEGA Eco. In 2025 they built a new hi-tech greenhouse and decided to go for a full LED solution with Agrolux WEGA Plus.

Learning curve

Moving to full LED meant rethinking familiar grow strategies. With HPS you also have a source for heat and when you go for full LED you need to compensate with other heat sources. Plant response, climate balance, temperature and daily routines all needed closer observation. Rather than seeing this as a setback, the team at Linnes Gård embraced the process as part of their development as growers. By continuously adjusting light recipes and aligning them with crop needs, Linnes Gård is steadily optimizing results crop by crop. Of course they can count on the expert advice of our Vidar.

“The transition to full LED hasn’t been effortless,” says Anne Eline Nærstad. “But we’re learning every day. It’s about small adjustments that make a big difference. Everything is in the details.”

Young Grower Award

That curiosity and willingness to challenge convention is characteristic of the next generation now shaping the business. In 2025, Anne Eline Nærstad received the Ungspireprisen (Young Grower Award) from the Norwegian Growers Association (NGF), honoring her forward looking approach, technical curiosity, and contribution to a more sustainable future for Norwegian horticulture.
The jury described her as “a role model for a new generation of growers who dare to think big, green, and future oriented.”

Lighting is never viewed in isolation

At Linnes Gård, lighting is never viewed in isolation. It is one piece of a larger eco system where all elements influence plant health and quality of produce. Especially for delicate products like lettuce and edible flowers, where uniformity, color, and shelf-life matter, precision is key.
