Light Measurements: Insight into the Actual Performance of Your Lighting System

With professional light measurements, Gavita International provides clear insight into the performance of your lighting system by measuring the actual light levels directly above the crop.

We carry out light measurements for all new installations supplied by us, but also offer this service independently for existing installations. This provides insight into the actual light intensity and light uniformity reached in practice. Our measurements are suitable for both static and dynamically controllable, dimmable lighting systems.

Why Perform Light Measurements?

A well-designed lighting plan is based on calculations. In practice, however, various factors can influence the amount of light that ultimately reaches the crop. These include the greenhouse structure, fixture contamination, changes to the greenhouse layout, the age of the installation, or deviations during installation.

With a professional light measurement, we verify whether the installation performs as designed. We assess both the light intensity and light distribution, making any deviations visible and providing objective data on the performance of your lighting system.

Our specialists perform measurements at multiple carefully selected locations throughout the greenhouse compartment. Measurements are carried out in darkness, ensuring that only the assimilation lighting is measured. By matching the measurement conditions as closely as possible to the assumptions of the original lighting design, a reliable comparison can be made between design and real-world performance.

After completion, you will receive a clear report containing the measurement results and our findings.

Measurements According to the Wageningen University & Research Protocol

We follow a standardized measurement protocol developed in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and various stakeholders from the Dutch horticultural sector. This protocol defines how and under which conditions measurements must be conducted, ensuring an objective assessment of the lighting system.

We contributed to the development of this protocol and apply this methodology to all professional light measurements.
